In parts, yes. But I also volunteered while studying, working as a teacher, and now again with my part-time project in Entrepreneurship Education which pays a steady income (based on my invested time). While making passive income I felt less generous with my time and paradoxically volunteered less than before.

But I agree, you need to have some kind of financial security to give away your time without expecting anything in return. Thanks for pointing this out Joellleppard!
